They can be further classified as Elements or Compounds.Example of pure substances are:gold, silver, copper, water etc.
-------------------------------------------------------
Elements:--A substance that cannot be broken down to simpler substances is called a element.
phosphorus (P4) and sulfur (S8) are examples of elements.
--------------------------------------------------------
Compounds:--A compound is a substance that consists of two or more elements, which is chemically combined, meaning that it could only be split by chemical means.
Examples:-- NaCl is salt, chemically combined of Sodium and Chloride.
- H2O is water, chemically combined of Hydrogen and oxygen.
-------------------------------------------------------
Non-metals:- - Non metals are dull, non lustrous and brittle and do not reflect light eg - carbo, oxygen etc
---------------------------------------------------------
Metalloids:--These are the elements, intermediate in properties between metal and non-metals ..... eg - Boron, silicon etc
-----------------------------------------------------
Mixture::--Mixture is obtained when two or mord substances mixed together in such a way that they do not lose their own properties
