A simile is a figure of speech that draws a comparison between two things showing how similar they are. A simile shows similarity using words like 'like' and 'as'.

Few examples of similes are as follows :-

  1. Her cheeks are red like a rose.
  2. He is slow as a tortoise.
  3. He is as cunning as a fox.

In the poem 'Sunrise' by Padma Sachdeva, a simile is used in the following line:-

The sun was descending like a cataract in the eye of the sky.
