A solenoid is a coil wound in the shape of a A solenoid is a long straight cylindrical conductor which is wonded by a number of turns of insulated copper wire.  please refer to page no 229 of NCERT book for the diagram  it almost behaves  like bar magnet and and the magnetic field lines are uniform and parallel inside the solenoid.
