A solid is one of the form of matter which is calssified on the basis of physical properties. The molecules of solids are tightly packed giving it a fixed shape and volume.
The main characterstics of solids are as followed:
1. It's volume and shape are fixed.
2. It's molecules have higher intermolecular forces than any other form.
3. It's intermolecular spaces are very low.
4. The kinetic energy of it's molecules are low as compare to any other form of matter.
5. It's compressibility is negligible.
6. It's rate of diffusion is very slow.
7. It's density is high.

A solid is a state of matter characterized by particles arranged such that their shape and volume are relatively stable.

All solids show the following characteristics-

(i) Solids are rigid, and incompressible.

(ii) Solids have fixed shape and definite volume.

(iii) Solids have their melting and boiling points above room temperature.
