Absolute refractive index is a number indicating the speed of light in a given medium as either the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to that in the given medium (absolute index of refraction) or the ratio of the speed of light in a specified medium to that in the given medium (relative index of refraction). Symbol: n.

Refractive index of a glass depends upon the refractive index of the surroundings (when you consider the light ray passing from the surrounding into the medium), optical density, wavelength of the light and temperature.

Refractive index of a typical crown glass is 1.52.

Given, speed of light in glass = 2.25*10⁸ m/s

R.I in glass = Speed of light in vacuum/speed of light in glass

⇒R.I = 3 * 10⁸/2.25 * 10⁸

⇒R.I = 3/2.25

⇒R.I = 1.33
