Acceleration is the rate of change in velocity over time.
Positive Acceleration : accelerate in the direction it is moving (speeds up).
Eg: riding bikes forward harder to speed up.

Negative Acceleration : accelerate in the opposite direction to the movement (slow down).
Eg: riding bike and pushing the brake slows down.

Explanation:

  • The rate of change of velocity of an object is called its acceleration. Its formula is given by :

a=\dfrac{v-u}{t}

u and v are initial and final velocity respectively

t is time taken

  • If the final velocity of an object is more than initial velocity, then its acceleration is positive.
  • If the final velocity of an object is less than initial velocity, then its acceleration is negative. It is also called deceleration.
