a Lewis acid is a chemical species that contains any empty orbital which is capable of accepting an electron from a Lewis base to form a Lewis adduct.

and Lewis base is a chemical species which is not involved in bonding but may from a dative bond with a Lewis acidto form a Lewis adduct.
