Actinomycetes:

1. The actinomycetes are branched filamentous bacteria which form radiating colonies in culture.
2. The cellwall contains mycolic acid.
3. Most of them are saprophytic and decomposers.
4. Some actinomycetous members like Mycobacterium and Corynebacterium are parasites.
5. A number of antibodies are produced by actinomycetous members especially the genus Streptomyces.
