Active transport is the passage of substance (salt or ion) from its lower concentration to higher concentration using energy from the cell, through a living cell membrane.

Active transport is in a direction opposite to that of diffusion.

Active transport helps in the transport of certain nutrients such as ions of nitrates, sulfates, potassium, zinc, manganese etc.

Hope this helps you.
