Algebraic Expression:-

An algebraic expression is mathematical term that consists of variables and constants along with mathematical operators or signs (subtraction, addition, multiplication, etc).

  • Example = 12x - 8 , 3y + 5 etc.

Types of Algebraic expression:-

  • Monomial :- 1 term
  • Binomial :- 2 terms
  • Trinomial :- 3 terms
  • Polynomial :- Many terms

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Monomial:-

  • Algebraic expression which has only one term is known as Monomial.
  • Example :- 2x , 9y ,10 z etc.

Binomial:-

  • Algebraic expression which has only two term is known as Binomial.
  • Example :- 2x + 3y , 9y + 7 ,10z + 8u etc.

Trinomial:-

  • Algebraic expression which has only three term is known as Trinomial.
  • Example :- 2x + 3y - 9z , etc.

Polynomial:-

  • Algebraic expression which has many term is known as Polynomial.
  • Example :- 2x + 3y - 9z + 9h , etc.

Mathematics knowledge:-

Algebraic Expression has many parts ,

  • Example :12x - 8
  • 12 is the coefficient of x.
  • x is a variable. Its value unknown and can be anything.
  • 8 is a constant with a fixed value.

Terms :-

Every part of an algebraic expression that is separated by a minus or plus sign is known as the term of the algebraic expression.

  • Example :- 10x + 7
  • In this 10x is one term and 7 is one term because they are dependent by mathematical sign.

Don't get confused in Algebraic expression and Algebraic equations.

  • An Algebraic Equation has two sides (Left Hand Side or LHS and Right Hand Side or RHS) whereas an Algebraic Expressions does not.

  • Algebraic Equation: 5x – 20 = 80 or (a + b)2 = a² + 2ab + b²

Now you know the difference between Algebraic Expressions and Algebraic Equations.

Types of algebraic expression.

There are four types of algebraic expression.

(1)Monomial

(2) Binomial

(3)Trinomial

(4) Polynomial

(1)Monomial

An algebraic expression consisting of any one term is called a monomial

for example

,3/4 p²,-y

and

2mn

are monomial.

(2) Binomial

An algebric expression class consisting of two terms is called a binomial

for example

,8x-7y,3m²-1/4a

and

x³-4

are monomial.

(3) Trinomial

An algebraic expression consisting of three terms is called a trinomials

for example

,7p²+2p-1/2,2-w+w³

and

3/2m²+mm-1/3

are trinomial

(4) Polynomial

An algebraic expression consisting of one or more terms is called a polynomial.

for example

,3x,2y+5,

7a+b+c,6p²+7p+p³/4-3,

x³+3/8x+x²-7/2

are polynomial.
