ANSWERThe outer part of the female reproductive organs is called the vulva, meaning coverage. The vulva is located between the legs and includes the opening inside the body to the vagina and other reproductive organs. The pubis is called the fleshy region just above the top of the vaginal opening. The vaginal opening is surrounded by two pairs of skin flaps called the labia (meaning lips). A tiny sensory organ, the clitoris is situated at the front of the vulva where the labia folds join. There are openings to the urethra (the channel that carries pee from the bladder to the outside of the body) and vagina between the labia. When girls grow sexually mature, pubic hair covers the outer labia and the pubis.Vagina, uterus, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries are the inner reproductive organs of a female. The vagina is a hollow, muscular tube extending from the opening of the vagina to the uterus.

The vagina can grow and contract because it has muscular walls. This capacity to grow larger or smaller enables the vagina to accommodate something as slim as a tampon and as broad as a child. The muscle walls of the vagina are lined with mucous membranes that keep it moist and protected. A very thin piece of skin-like tissue called the hymen partly covers the opening of the vagina. Hymens are often different from female to female. The vagina connects to the cervix (meaning neck) with the uterus, or womb. There are powerful, dense walls in the cervix. The cervix's opening is very tiny (no wider than a straw), which is why inside a girl's body a tampon can never get lost. The cervix may expand during pregnancy to enable a child to pass.
