Hi friends
there are many types of printers wit different technology and different work . some printer's name and function :
● dot - matrix : create character by striking pins against an ink ribbon. each pin make a dot and combination dots from character.
The dot-matrix printer uses print heads containing from 9 to 24 pins.Dot-matrix printers are inexpensive and typically print at speeds of 100-600 characters per second.
● ink jet : Sprays ink at a sheet of paper. Ink-jet printers produce high-quality text and graphics.
● laser : uses the same technology as copy machines. laser printer produce very high quality text and graphics.
thank you

<> A printer is an output device, which takes the input from the computer and presents it in a hard copy to the user.
<> There are two types of printers: Impact printers and Non-impact printers.
<> Impact printers:
# In these printers there is a physical contact between the paper and the print head.
# These printers can again be subdivided into Line printers and Character printers.
⇒ Line printers:
# Line printers print one line of the text at a time.
# Printing speed: 300 - 3000 lines per minute
# Examples of line printers - Drum printers and chain printers.
- Drum printers
# Drum printers have a drum with letters embossed on it and a hammer to strike each character of a line.
# The drum rotates at a full speed and the hammer strikes on a character and brings it to a print position.
# The drum printers are now no longer used due tot latest versions of printers.
- Chain printers:
# The chain printers are wrapped around two pulleys and a hammer.
# When the desired character is required, the hammer strikes and the paper is pressed against the ribbon to a proper print position.
# The chain printers too are not used anymore.
⇒ Character printers:
# These printers print one character at a time.
# They are very slow with the speed range of 30 - 600 characters per second.
# Character printers are subdivided into dot matrix printers and letter quality printers.
- Dot matrix printers:
# Most popular character printers.
# These printers have a row of pins which will fire against the ribbon after the moving of the print head.
# More pins, better the quality.
# Most of these printers are bidirectional, ie, they print one line of the text from left to right and then next line from right to left.
- Letter quality printers:
# These printer s complete each character at a time and not made by pins.
# One of the popular letter quality printer is the daisy wheel printer.
# The hammer strikes the appropriate character on the petals when in proper position.
# Daisy wheel printers have the speed of 90 characters per second.
<> Non-impact printers:
# There is no physical contact between the print head and the paper.
# They are subdivided into electromagnetic printers, Thermal printers, Inkjet printers and Laser printers.
⇒ Electromagnetic printers:
# They use magnetic recording techniques.
# Output is on a drum surface, which comes in contact with the magnetic powder and pressed on to the paper to make characters.
⇒ Thermal printers:
# These printers use a special heat sensitive coated paper.
# A paper turns black in the shape of the character due to heating and creates the output required.
⇒ Inkjet printers:
# These printers use continuous ink drops on the paper
# Nozzles spray the ink droplets on the paper.
# The quality is good.
⇒ Laser printers:
# Laser printers print one page at a time.
# The light beam takes the shape of the characters and later, they are permanently fixed on paper using heat or pressure.
