Element: An element is a pure substance which is made up of atoms of the same kind. For example, iron is an element which is made up of iron atoms.

Compound: A compound is a pure substance which is made up of molecules of the same kind. A molecule of a compound consists of atoms of two, or more, different elements that have combined in a fixed ratio. For example, water is a compound made up of water molecules. Each molecule of water contains two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen combined together.
