I am gonna tell u in short, u can elaborate easily thereafter,
Sign convention are some basic rules which u need to know for image formation. These rules are-
1. Distance between object and mirror is -- u
2. Distance between image and mirror is ---v
3. Distance between focus and pole is --- f
4. If the image is formed above the principal axis, then the image formed is in positive otherwise negative.
5.The 'u' is always represented by
Negative.
6. 'v' is negative if it lies on the left side otherwise positive.
7. There is also a formula which is,
----. 1/u + 1/v = 1/f
