MARKOVNIKOV RULE;

The rule states that negative part of the addendum (adding molecule) gets attached to that carbon atom which possesses LESSER number of hydrogen atoms.

ANTI-MARKOVNIKOV RULE;

The rule states that negative part of the addendum (adding molecule) gets attached to that carbon atom which possesses MORE number of hydrogen atoms in the presence of peroxide.

Markovnikov's Rule.....

According to this rule, in case of addition of unsymmetrical reagents to the unsymmetrical alkene the part of reagent is added to that C atom which has more H atoms and -ve part is added to that carbon atom which has less number of carbon atoms..

Anti-Markovnikov's rule

it is also called peroxide effect or K-Harasch effect.

According to this rule, in case of addition of HBr to unsymmetrical alkene +ve part is added to that carbon atom which have less H atoms and

-ve part to that carbon atom which have more H atoms.
