antibiotics are chemical substances produced by some microorganisms and can kill or inhibits the growth of other microorganisms .

antibiotics cure bacterial infections .

the antibiotics binds to bacterial ribosomes and also interfere in the cell wall formation .

so they are unable to synthesise proteins and the bacteria are unable to grow and multiply .

Antibiotics are useless against viral infections. This is because viruses are so simple that they use their host cells to perform their activities for them. So antiviral drugs work differently to antibiotics, by interfering with the viral enzymes instead.
