Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction that does not involve the fusion of gametes or change in the number of chromosomes. The offspring that arise by asexual reproduction from either unicellular or multicellular organisms inherit the full set of genes of their single parent.

There are different types of asexual reproduction:

(1) Binary Fission

(2) Budding

(3) Fragmentation

(4) Vegetative Propagation

(5) Sporogenesis

Yeasts are microscopic unicellular fungi that are used to make bread, beer and wine by fermentation. Yeasts reproduce by budding (asexual reproduction), when a small bud forms and splits to form a new daughter cell, but under stress conditions they can produce spores (a form of sexual reproduction).

  • Asexual reproduction involves the production of new organisms by just one parent. It does not require the parent of both sexes. There are many forms of asexual reproduction.
