It is the sum of no of protons and neutrons of atom.(A-Z) gives the no of neutrons present in an atom. The representation of an atom with its atomic and mass numbers is done as A.

A
X
Z

Where x= an atom
Z= atomic number (written as subscript)
A=mass number (written as superscript)
