Atomicity is defined as the total number of atoms that constitute a molecule. For example, each molecule of oxygen is composed of two oxygen atoms. So atomicity of oxygen is 2.In older contexts, the term atomicity is sometimes used in the same sense as valency.......
a) Oxygen exists as O2 and thus 1 molecule of oxygen contains 2 atoms , therefore atomicity is 2.
b) Argon exists as Ar and thus 1 molecule of argon contains 1 atom , therefore atomicity is 1.
c) Phosphorous exists as P4 and thus 1 molecule of phosphorous contains 4 atoms , therefore atomicity is 4.
d) Sulphur exists as S8 and thus 1 molecule of sulphur contains 8 atoms , therefore atomicity is 8.
