average speed of a moving body is defined as the ratio of the total distance travelled by it to the total time taken by it.

DIFFERENCE:-

Average speed - it is measured as the total distance travelled by total time taken

Average velocity - it is measured as total distance travelled / displacement in a given direction by total time taken

NOTE --> the average velocity can be equal to average speed if the object moves along a straight line .
