The axillary bud (or lateral bud) is an embryonic shoot located in the axil of a leaf. Each bud has the potential to form shoots, and may be specialized in producing either vegetative shoots (stems and branches) or reproductive shoots (flowers).

Axillary meristem is the unit in plant body which inhibits axillary buds. They're formed by apical meristem.

It is in existence with having meristematic cells in itself.

It is found in lead apills while, it mainly supports in growth of the plant and thus it is responsible for it.
