Balanced forces :

  • Balanced forces are those that are opposite in direction and equal in size. When forces are balanced there is no change in direction. Combined forces that are balanced are always equal to zero. ( combining vectors) Balance forces cannot change the motion or direction of an object.

Unbalanced forces :-

  • forces: forces applied to an object in opposite directions that are not equal in size. Unbalanced forces result in a change in motion. friction: the force that opposes the motion or tendency toward motion of two objects that are in contact.

3 examples of unbalanced forces

  • Kicking a soccer ball.
  • The up and down movement in a seesaw
  • The taking-off of a Rocket

When two forces acting on an object are equal in size but act in opposite directions, we say that they are balanced forces . a stationary object stays still. a moving object continues to move at the same speed and in the same direction.

When two forces acting on an object are not equal in size, we say that they are unbalanced forces. The overall force acting on the object is called the resultant force . If the forces are balanced, the resultant force is zero.
