the carbohydrate may be defined as optically active polyhydroxy aldehyde or kittens all the compounds which produce such units on hydrolysis

Carbohydrate consist of carbon,hydrogen,oxygen.It carb means carbon, hydr means water, ate means oxygen.

it's subunits are-

*MONOSACCHARIDES- they are simple in structure and are sweet in taste like glucose,fructose.

*polysaccharides-they are complex in structure and they not sweet in taste like starch,cellulose.
