Cell Membrane

• Cell membrane is the outermost covering in an animal cell. Innermost covering in a plant cell(present before cell wall) and the middlemost layer in a bacterial cell (present between Glycocalyx and Cell Wall)

• Phospholipids is the chief constituent of human plasma membrane. In addition to lipids,it is characterized by the presence of proteins and cholesterol which help in influx and outflux of substances and maintain stability at different levels of pressure respectively

• The plasma membrane is generally a lipid bilayer with the water repelling end towards the interior(hydrophobic end) and the water attracting end towards the exterior (hydrophonic end)

• This model of Plasma Membrane was proposed by Singer and Nicolson
