Plasma Membrane/Cell Membrane is the outermost covering of the cell that separates the contents of the cell from its external environment. It is present in both plant and animal cells.

FUNCTIONS:

(i)To provide a mechanical barrier for the protection of the inner cell contents

(ii)To regulate the exchange or transport of substances in and out of the cell

(iii)It allows only some substance to enter and exit in and out the cell. And that is the reason why the Cell Membrane is called the Selectively Permeable Membrane
