The Chipko movement or Chipko Andolanwas a forest conservation movement in India where people embraced the trees to prevent them from being cut down. This movement helped in a lot of forest conservation. This movement helped to save the environment with rapid deforestation, helped to increase ecological awareness and helped to reveal the strength of people. Both male and female took an active part in this movement.
The original Chipko Movement dates back to the 18 th century and the Bishnoi community belonging to Rajasthan started this movement to protect trees.

This is mainly done through the act of hugging Trees to protect them from Being cut down.
This was first started by Amrita Devi while protesting against a king's men to cut the tree.
The first Chipko action took place spontaneously in April 1973 in the village of mandal in the upper Alaknanda valley and over the next five years spread to many districts of Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh.
