Chromatography is used to seperate components that dissolve in the same solvent. It is mainly based on adsoption. Chromatography is done using chromatography papers.

Applications

• Colours in a dye.
• Pigment from natural colours.
• Drugs from blood.

¬ Definition- The process to separate the coloured components of a mixture is called chromatography.

¬ Principle- 1. The components should be coloured.

2. These coloured solutes should be soluble in the same solvent.

3. One of the components should be more soluble in water.

¬ Applications- 1. Separating pigments from their natural colours.

2. Separating drugs from blood.

3. Separating colours within a dye.
