What is Ciliary Movement?

This type of movement occurs in most of our internal tubular organs. It includes the ciliated epithelium. The coordinated movements of cilia in the trachea help us in removing dust particles inhaled along with the atmospheric air. Also the passage of ova through the female reproductive tract is also performed by ciliary movement.

The rhythmic, sweeping movement of epithelial cell cilia, of ciliate protozoans, or the sculling movement of flagella, effected possibly by the alternate contraction and relaxation of contractile threads (myoids) on one side of the cilium or flagellum.
