define classification of organisms. why do we need to classify them? mention any two major characteristics used for classifying organisms.

classification is the process by which anything is grouped into convenient catagories based on some easily observable characteristics

Aristotle was the earliest to attempt a more scientific basis for classification

he used simple morphological characters to classify plants to herb, shrub ,trees

you knw, he also divided animals into two

Classification of organism is defined as the system of arrangements of organisms into different groups and sub-groups on the Basis of there similarities , differences & the relationship .

Importance of classification -

- It helps to study the inter-relationship among different groups of organism .

- It makes the study of wide variety of organisms convenient & easy .

Characteristics considered for classifying organism are -

- whether they are Prokaryotic or Eukaryotic .

- whether Unicellular or Multicellular .
