A Clause is a group of words that include a subject And predicate.

EXAMPLE:-

Rosey graduated in from Ramjas college with a degree in mathematics.

( The subject ‘Rosey is followed by the predicate, ‘gratuated from Ramjas college with a degree in mathematics.

  • Independent clause/Main Clause/Principal Clause

An independent Clause may stand alone as a sentence. Every sentence must have one or more independent clauses. If it doesn't have an independent Clause, it is not a sentence but merely a fragment.

EXAMPLE:-

Even though Hima had to look after her sick parents, she never compromised with her studies. ( The independent Clause is ‘She never compromised with her studies’.)

  • Dependent clause/ Subordinate clause

A dependent clause must always be

accompanied by an independent Clause.A sentence May have one or more dependent clauses.

  • noun clause

A noun Clause Acts as a noun and therefore can be a subject, object or predicate.

EXAMPLE:-

Whether I can pass The enterace test will determine my future educational opportunities.(‘ whether I can pass the entrance test’ is a noun clause serving as the subject of the sentence. 'Whether is the Subordinating conjunction.
