A coalition government is the one formed by two or more parties which come together and pool their votes so as to win majority if none of the parties was able to make clear majority.
The coalition trend has started from the 1990s and it has created new trend in power sharing as now the central government cannot arbitarly remove a opposite state party just because it is in majority. Now the ruling party has to look into the interests of all the regional parties as it stands on their support. This has strengthened power sharing in India.
