Define cohesive forces. How does its value change for three different states of matter?

cohesive forces are the intermolecular forces( such as those from hydrogen bonding and van der Waka forces) which cause a tendency in liquids to resist separation. these attractive forces exist between molecules of the same substance.

Cohesive are actually associated with bulk properties but we think they are applicable to discussion of atomic and molecular properties

Cohesive force act when a liquid comes into contact with a surface like walls . Thus forces govern the shape which the liquid takes on.

Now this can be concluded these force will be maximum for things which has maximum contact with surfaces.
