Compound epithelial tissue - this type of tissue consist of two or more layers and acts as a protective layer over the skin.

These tissues are further classified as :-

*Stretchable

*Non-strechable

Compound epithelial tissue is the tissue which acts a a protective covering over organs. It is multilayered and made up of many different types of cells. it can be divided into the following.

1. Stratified Epithelium:

i) Stratified squamous epithelium

  a. Keratinised - eg: skin

  b. Non-keratinised - eg: buccal cavity

ii) Stratified cuboidal epithelium

eg: lining of ducts, conjuctiva of eyes

iii) Stratified columnar epithelium

eg: vasa efferentia, repiratory tract

2. Transitional epithelium:

eg: urinary bladder, ureter
