Define decomposition reaction and displacement reaction with examples:-

Answers:-

● DECOMPOSITION REACTION:- the reaction in which a single substance decomposes to give two or more substances is called Decomposition Reaction.

◆ There are three type of decomposition reaction:-

1. Thermal decomposition
2. Electrolytic decomposition
3. Sunlight decomposition

◆ THERMAL DECOMPOSITION : When the decomposition is carried by the heat.

Example = 2feSO4 --heat-- Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3

◆ ELECTROLYTIC DECOMPOSITION : When the decomposition carried by the electric current.

Example = H2 --electric current--- H2 + O2

◆ SUNLIGHT DECOMPOSITION : When the decomposition carried by sunlight.

Example = 2AgCl --sunlight-- 2Ag + Cl

● DISPLACEMENT REACTION : The reaction in which high reactive metal displace the less reactive metal is called Displacement reaction.

Example = CuSO4 + Fe --- FeSO4 + Cu

CuSO4 = blue
Fe = black
FeSO4 = green
Cu = reddish brown

in this example Iron (Fe ) is more reactive metal than the copper (Cu) because Iron (Fe) displace by the Copper (Cu).
