The word democracy means rule by the people.

It comes from two greek word - demos ( people ) and kratos ( rule ). Democracy is a form of government in which the people govern themselves, either directly or tyrough representatives they elect for the purpose. In the 1860s, president Abraham Lincoln of the USA defined democracy as "government of the people, by the people, for the people".

Socialism is a political, social and economic philosophy encompassing the range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self management of enterprises. It includes the political theories and movements associated with such systems.
