So basically density is mass per unit volume of a substance. It is a characteristic property of that substance. Making it more simple we can say that density is the ratio of mass to that of the volume.

Working formula:

$density(d)= \frac{mass(m)}{volume(v)}$

SI unit and CGS unit:

kg/metre cube is the SI unit and g/cm cube is the cgs unit.
