Plaque is a yellowish sticky film that builds up on teeth and contains millions of bacteria. The bacteria in plaque if not removed regularly by brushing and flossing can eventually harden into tartar. As the tartar continue to increase, it can result in gingivitis in which gum tissue become red, swollen and possibly bleed when you brush your teeth.
