           Generally two kinds of respiration can be found in animals namely, aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration.

Aerobic respiration:

                             Aerobic respiration is the kind of respiration which occurs in the presence of sufficient amount of oxygen. During this time complete break-down of glucose occurs and is comparatively slower than the anaerobic respiration. In case of aerobic respiration 38 ATP energy is produced. It generally occurs in higher species of animals.

Anaerobic respiration:

                                Anaerobic respiration is the kind of respiration which generally occurs in the absence of sufficient amount of oxygen. During this time partial or incomplete break-down of glucose occurs. It is comparatively faster than aerobic respiration. During this time 2 ATP energy is produced. This kind of respiration generally occurs in lower species of organisms such as yeast and often in higher species of organisms while there is a need of rapid production of energy.
