Answer:

The human digestive system consists of the gastrointestinal tract plus the accessory organs of digestion. Digestion involves the breakdown of food into smaller and smaller components, until they can be absorbed and assimilated into the body. The process of digestion has three stages.

The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus. The hollow organs that make up the GI tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system.

The Digestive System -

The system of organs that helps in the digestion of food.

Digestion - The breaking down of food particles into smaller and soluble particles or breaking of complex substances into simpler form.

The organs that are involved in digestion are -

The mouth -

It is called oral cavity. It contains -

  • Teeth- the teeth are visible after six months after birth. They are hard structures. They help us to chew, grind the food into small pieces. There are four types of teeth - Canine, Incisor, Premolar, Molar.
  • Tongue - The muscular organ in the mouth. It helps us to taste the food(salt, bitter, sour, and sweet). It also helps in swallowing the food inside. It mixes food with saliva. It also helps us to speak.
  • Salivary Glands - It produces a watery fluid called Saliva. It moistens the food so that the food can be easily swallowed.

The food Pipe -

The other name of it is Oesophagus. The length of it is about 30 cm. It connects the mouth and the stomach. The food passes and come to the stomach with help of it. It is a muscular organ. It contracts to push the food down to the stomach.

Stomach -

It is a bag like sac. Here HCl acid is produced to kill the germs and bacteria that enter in our stomach. The food is stored for about 2-3 hours.

Liver and Pancreas -

They help in the process of digestion. Liver is the largest gland in our body. The colour of the Liver is dark brown. Liver produces bile juice and pancreas produces pancreatic juices.

Small Intestine -

The food comes in small intestine after half digestion in stomach. It is longer in length. Complete digestion takes place and absorption of food also takes place here. It's surface have finger like projection called Villi. It increases the surface area for absorption.

Large Intestine -

The lower end of the small intestine extends into a wide tube like structure which is called large intestine. It is thick but shorter than small intestine. It absorbs water from the food and the leftover food is undigested food that is pushed out as waste.

Anus -

The waste food i.e the undigested food is eliminated from the body through an external opening called anus.
