Dikaryon is a fungal cell which has precisely two genetically-distinct but allelically-compatible nuclei, as shown here and here. In this sense, a heterokaryon is a general term, whereas a dikaryonis a specific term. A dikaryon and a trikaryon are both heterokaryons.
