In condensed matter physics, dopingrefers to the deliberate introduction of impurities into an extremely pure crystal. For example, a crystal of pure silicon might be doped with boron atoms that change the material's electrical properties, making it a more effective semiconductor..ok

Doping is the process of adding impurities to intrinsic semiconductorsto alter their properties. Normally Trivalent and Pentavalent elements are used to dope Silicon and Germanium. ... The P stands for Positive, which means the semiconductor is rich in holes or Positive charged ions. The addition of a small percentage of foreign atoms in the regular crystal lattice of silicon or germanium produces dramatic changes in their electrical properties, producing n-type and p-type semiconductors.
