In double displacement reaction two compounds exchange their ions to form two new compounds. Such a reaction can be represented as :
XY + AB ----> XB + AY
Where X and A are +ve ions and Y and B are -ve ions.
It is also called matathesis reaction.
BaCl2 + Na2SO4 -----> BaSO4 + 2 NaCl
