Echo : An echo can be defined as the phenomena of the reflection of sound produced by a source placed in a relatively open environment after it hits a distant obstacle like a cliff etc. ... (2) The source of sound and the reflecting surface should be atleast 17 m apart for us to hear the echo.

Echo is the repetition of sound caused due to the reflection of sound waves from a surface back to the listener.
Conditions required for hearing an echo -
The distance between the sound source and the surface where it gets reflected must not be less than 17 metres.
Also, it's necessary that the time period should not be less than 1/10th second.
