Define eco-system. Explain the energy flow in the ecosystem with appropriate diagrams and examples
Answers
Answer:
biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment
Ecosystem
Explanation:
The ecosystem consists of biotic and abiotic components. Biotic components are living components. Abiotic components are non-living chemical and physical factors in the environment that affect the ecosystem. Common abiotic factors are sunlight, water, oxygen, temperature, nitrogen, pH, etc.
Sunlight and water are vital for all living organisms. Without them life wouldn't thrive on Earth. Plants produce energy with the help of sunlight. They are producers. Animals and humans are consumers as we depend on plants and other animals for energy. According to the 10% Rule on the flow of energy through a food chain, only 10% of the energy is transferred when food passes from one trophic level to the next. The remaining 90% of the energy is lost to the surroundings in the form of heat and some is used by the organism itself for its life process.
Transfer of energy:
Sunlight --> Plants --> Sheep --> Man
