define electric fuse give example

Hyyyyy.......
Here is ur answer.....
The safety device which saves electric device on overloading and short circuit is called fuse.
The
thickness and length of fuse wire depends on the maximum current allowed through the circuit. It works on heating effect of current. It is used for protecting our domestic wiring is fitted just above our main switch on switch board.
HOW DOES FUSE WORKS??
The main fuse in domestic wiring consist of porcelain fuse holder having two brass terminal in it. This is connected to live wire. The other part office use is removable fuse grip which is also made of porcelain. The fuse grip has a fuse wire fixed in it. When fuse grip which is fixed in fuse holder then the circuit of domestic wiring is completed. So under normal circumstances when the current is within limit, the fuse wire intact and electric current is available in our wiring.
When short circuit for overloading take place the current become large and heat the fuse wire too much. Since melting point of fuse wire is much lower than copper wire, the fuse wire melts and breaks the circuit. When fuse wire break, electric supply switch off before any damage can be done to the rest of wiring.
