Explanation:

Electric potential : it is defined as amount of work done in bringing a charge from infinity to a point inside a electric field of a charge . As it is defined vas workdone , it is scaler quantity .

Electric potential=work done /charge .

V = W/Q

#Electrostatic potential due to a dipole at its axial point .

Consider a dipole having charges -q and +q and having length 2a . we have to calculate potential X distance from a centre of dipole on its axis.

Potential at point A be given by algebraic sum of potential due to both the charges of dipole .

Potential die to positive charges

V+q = 1/4πE° ×q/(x-a)

Potential due to negative charge .

V-q = -1/4πE• × q/(X+a)

Hence potential at point A .

V= V+q + V-q

=q/4πE• [1/(x-a)+1/(X+a)]

= q/4πE• × q×2a/(x²-a²)

=> V = 1/4πE• × p(x²-a²).

if x>>> a ,a²can be neglected.

V = 1/4πE° p/x²

This is the expression for Electrostatic potential due to a dipole at its axial point.
