The rate at which electric energy is dissipated or consumed in an electric circuit is called electric power. It's SI unit is Watt (W).
power = work done / time taken
we know that work done by current I when it flows for time T under potential difference V is given by :
W = V*I*T joules
so, power = V*I*T / T joules per second
Power, P = V*I joules per second or watt

Answer
Electric power is the rate at which energy is transferred to or from a part of an electric circuit. ... By Ohm's Law, V = IR, and so there are additional forms of the electric power formula for resistors. Power is measured in units of Watts (W), where a Watt is equal to a Joule per second (1 W = 1 J/s).
