In chemistry and manufacturing, electrolysis is a technique that uses direct electric current to drive an otherwise non-spontaneous chemical reaction. Electrolysis is commercially important as a stage in the separation of elements from naturally occurring sources such as ores using an electrolytic cell.

Answer

The words ' electrolysis ' is made up of two words : electro + lysis, lysis means ' breaking down '. So, electrolysis means a process of breaking time of a substance by passing an electric current through it in its dissolved or molten state. The dissolved or molten state of a substance that is being decomposed is called electrolyte. The container in which electrolysis is brought about is called an electrolytic cell. An electrolytic cell consists of two electrodes and an electrolyte. An electrode is a conductor that allow electric current to pass from one medium to another using the Graffiti on metal plates or rod.
