Answer:

Electron affinity means the energy that will be released or will be reqiured to add an electron to the valence shell of a GASEOUS atom of any element. High electron affinity (-ve) implies easier to add electron as atom becomes stable on gaining electron. Eg- Cl,F

As we go down the group in periodic table, atomic size increases so it becomes difficult for the nucleus to attract the incoming electron as distance between valence shell and nucleus has increased, also shielding due to other electrons occurs. So EA becomes less negative and more positive when going down the group.
