If the group number is increased then the non metallic character is decreased and as well as electronegativity also decreases.

Answer:

ELECTRONEGATIVITY (EN):

Explanation:

EN of an element is the tendency of an atom to attract the shared pair of electrons towards itself.It is a quantitative measure,because unlike ionization enthalpy and electron gain enthalpy which is related to atoms in the isolated gaseous state,it is in the bonded state and hence not a measurable quantity.

approx values of few elements;

As the effective nuclear charge increase,atomic radii decreases in a period and electronegativity increases. therefore down the group as tendency to attract shared pair of electrons goes on decreasing.Hence EN decreases
